Tire Tread vs Plain Silicone Wristbands: Which Suits Your Promotion?

Two silicone bands, two jobs. How the moulded tread pattern and the plain loop differ in print area, MOQ, lead time and where the brand is seen.

Two silicone bands can cost almost the same and still do very different work at an event. The tire tread band carries a moulded pattern across its whole surface. The plain band carries only what you print on it. Choosing between them is mostly a question of where the band will be seen, and how much of the design has to survive a quick glance.

What the tread pattern actually adds

A tire tread band is moulded with a raised pattern around the loop, plus a flat rectangular panel for artwork. The pattern is part of the shape, not a print, so it does not fade, crack or wear off. On a wrist at arm's length, the texture reads as a dark, mechanical band even before anyone sees the logo.
That matters in a crowded setting: a car meet, a motorcycle event, a tyre dealer's open day, a race day handout. The band is recognisable from a few metres away, and the printed panel does the detail work up close. Our tire tread band measures 65.2 mm inner diameter, 15.8 mm wide and 5.2 mm thick, and weighs 10.5 g.

Where plain bands win

A plain silicone band is a single smooth loop, usually 202 × 12 × 2 mm on our standard line. There is nothing to mould except the loop itself, so the band is lighter, cheaper per piece and faster to produce. Our plain line runs 100,000–140,000 pieces a day, which is why it can absorb large, last-minute orders that a moulded pattern cannot.
Plain bands also take colour more evenly across the whole surface. If your design depends on a clean, saturated colour block with a small logo, a plain band shows that colour without a pattern interrupting it.

Print area differences

The tire tread band has a defined panel: 50.5 × 9 mm, with a maximum printable area of 46 × 6 mm. Artwork has to sit inside that rectangle, and the panel is flat, so text and simple marks print cleanly.
A plain band has no panel, so the printable area depends on how the artwork wraps the loop. In practice this gives more freedom in layout but less predictability in how the design sits when worn. If the design has to be perfectly centred every time, the panel on the tread band is easier to control.

MOQ and lead time side by side

Tire tread band — Plain band
Minimum order (1 colour) — 100 pcs — 1 pc
Minimum order (2+ colours) — 200 pcs — Quoted per order
Production lead time — 7–10 working days (100–500 pcs), 10–15 working days (501–2,000 pcs) — 5–7 working days up to 1,000 pcs, 10–15 working days from 100,000 pcs
Daily output — About 1,000 pcs per mould — 100,000–140,000 pcs
Moulds / colours — Four tire tread moulds — 12 standard colours
Lead times are counted from artwork approval and receipt of payment. Production time and shipping time are quoted separately.

A simple decision rule

Choose the tire tread band when the band itself has to carry the brand at a distance, or when the promotion is tied to vehicles, tyres or motorsport. Choose the plain band when volume, colour consistency and unit cost matter more than surface texture, or when the design needs to wrap the full loop.
If you are still unsure, order a small run of each. Both bands are produced in the same workshop, so a side-by-side sample tells you more than a colour proof on screen.

Request a quote

Send the quantity, band colour and delivery country, and tell us whether the design has to sit inside the 46 × 6 mm panel or can wrap the loop. We will confirm the print area, colour match and lead time before production starts.
